More Required Education for Community Association Managers

The landscape for community association managers (CAMs) in Florida is undergoing significant changes with the introduction of new requirements aimed at enhancing professionalism and ensuring that CAMs stay updated with key aspects of community management. On June 3, 2024, Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 1203 into law, which brings important updates to continuing education requirements for CAMs serving homeowners’ associations (HOAs).
Additional Continuing Education Requirements
Under the new law, CAMs who provide community association management services to homeowner associations will be required to complete a minimum of 5 hours of continuing education that specifically relates to homeowner associations, and 3 of those hours must be dedicated to recordkeeping.
Effective Date
The changes took effect on November 18, 2024, and are in Rule 61E14-4.001 of the Florida Administrative Code, which governs the continuing education renewal requirements for CAMs. It’s important to note that these education requirements are a part of the 2024-2026 biennial licensure cycle, so CAMs should plan accordingly to ensure compliance by the renewal deadline.
Updating Your License Account with DBPR
As part of the implementation of these new education requirements for homeowner association CAMs, CAMs will need to update their online account with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). Specifically, CAMs must check the box on their profile page to reflect that they are providing services to homeowner associations. This update helps ensure that CAMs’ licenses are in good standing and that they are compliant with the latest educational mandates.
If you need assistance with updating your online account, the DBPR provides helpful guidance on their website. Additionally, you can reach out to the Department at 850-487-1395 or contact them via email using their contact form here: DBPR Contact Us.
